THE DESIGNER FOCUS - EDIE PARKER

Cult fashion followers will recognise the emblazoned Edie Parker clutches, worn by the likes of Alexa Chung, Zooey Deschanel and Millie Bobby Brown.

Their regular appearances on the red carpet and in the hands of it-girls rocketed the brand to the top of every woman’s wish-list, and with their vibrantly unique designs, it’s easy to see why.

Designer and founder Brett Heyman drew her inspiration for the brand from her love of mid-century design and style, and the process of craftsmanship within post-war America. Edie Parker, named after Heyman’s daughter, has since become famous for its disruption of the evening bag scene and use of bold materials and colours.

Founded in 2010, the brand’s designs have been dubbed the ‘Go-To Red Carpet Clutch’. Heyman launched the brand after being unable to find the classic style of acrylic bags of the '50s and '60s that have now become the main inspiration for the iconic Edie Parker design.

Expanding from the classic design of the original clutches, Edie Parker has branched out not only to other styles of bag, but also phone cases, charms and homeware. Most notably, the brand began to personalise its bags a few years after its founding date. Customers are able to print anything on their clutch, from their name to their favourite food, with one woman famously printing ‘divorced’ on hers to advertise her new relationship status.

Heyman’s clutches have struck a chord of nostalgia amongst editors and influencers alike, giving the brand one of its biggest strengths in a fast-paced world where timelessness is key.
