The Biggest Wellness Tips for 2021
Let’s face it, 2020 was an interesting year, to say the least. Even though crossing into a new year doesn’t magically fix all things, 2021 has already ushered in an air of freshness that presents a host of beautiful possibilities to come.
We’re so ready for it! Here are the biggest wellness tips of 2021 to help you refocus, regroup, and make the very best of what the year has to offer.
Radical Self-care
You read that right. RADICAL.
Indiana State University defines radical self-care as the assertion that you have the responsibility to take care of yourself first before attempting to take care of others. Essentially, you should fill your cup first, then give others from the overflow.
Radical self-care isn’t just about bubble baths and spa days, but it’s about truly doing what you need to protect yourself and your mental health before doing the same for others. It’s the same logic applied when air hostesses ask you to put your oxygen mask on for yourself before you put it on for others. You will be a better asset to others when you are in a better place mentally. So, set the boundaries at work, at school with your friends and family as you need to. Assess the things that add to you and cut away the things that take.
Permission granted to be a little selfish with yourself this year.
Stretch Yourself
Stretching is really underrated!
It’s a great way to boost connectivity in the areas of the brain responsible for memory. Additionally, stretching improves joint range of motion, athletic performances, and most importantly decreases the risk of injury.
Rather than spend 10 minutes in the morning on social media, do your body a favour and do a 10-minute yoga or pilates routine. You’ll thank yourself at the end of the day,
Thoughts into Reality
Have you ever noticed how the more you think of things the more they appear? For example, if you want to buy a particular item, you start noticing it everywhere? The same thing applies to desirable outcomes. You can manifest good things in your life when you visualize them clearly and in detail. It makes you more comfortable with the idea, and thus, becomes easier to attain.
Sleep, Sleep Sleep
Get more rest. This one is so simple! Poor sleep has been linked to mental health issues and a lack of productivity.
You should create a sleep routine to wind down and ensure you are getting at least 6-8 hours each night. Pick your ideal sleep atmosphere, although most people prefer to sleep in a cool, dark, quiet room.
Preventative Treatments
Most Western medicine has a solution-based approach to wellbeing, but consumers are demanding treatments that focus on preventing health problems from occurring.
This year you should put on emphasis on exercise, healthy food, sleep, stress reduction, all of which are the pillars of wellness and are science-backed strategies to support your body’s individual needs
Being Kind to Yourself
In 2021, practice a lot of self-compassion. If you make a mistake or fail at something, remember you’re not the first and will not be the last.
When you do fail, treat yourself how you would treat a loved one – be honest, supportive, and compassionate. Have a plan B, and if that doesn’t work, plan C.
Make sure you stop comparing yourself to others. When we do this, we often draw from someone else’s best moments and compare them to our worst. This is so unfair to ourselves and the results help no one.
Reaching Out
We all try to be superheroes and do it all, but the truth is there is nothing wrong with asking for help or not being okay. Everything on earth is in a cycle, and the ups and downs are inevitable. When you do feel those lows, reach out to loved ones and close friends, and ask for help. More people have the same shared experiences than you know.
When people do reach out, make sure you listen, and do not invalidate their problems or concerns.
Meditate
Physical exercise has lots of benefits for the body. Meditation is a workout for the brain and has countless benefits for the mind.
Taking a few minutes each day to focus on nothing but breathing helps you train your mind to be more focused, calmer, and resilient. It’s easy enough to try, so why don’t you?
